I did not sleep in today! But I also did not really leave the house. It has been a rather chilly and cloudy (almost rainy) day. I had some breakfast then got to work answering some emails (they really never stop, but I am
I also bought the new DMB album today (I had forgotten that it had come out already, I am still so wrapped up in the new mewithoutYou album, which I would urge you all to go out and get right now!). I have not had time to really listen to it yet, although I heard a couple of songs. I look forward to diving into it on my long train ride tomorrow.
That last paragraph reminds me that I really don’t know who my audience is, so if you don’t know what I was talking about up there, I am sorry. I hope you do though, and you should definitely get online and check out both no matter who you are.
I have also started to submit posts to my other blog through SMU. I know you are just dying to read more from me, and lucky for you I now know the address. It is: http://blog.smu.edu/StudentAdventures/patrick_in_england/. I have a little overlap, but I am trying to make that more about the actual research and some of the interesting stuff I get from observing and interviewing. So, where I have just brushed over things here, I will try to go into more detail there. Oh, I will be updating that one weekly I think.
I made a sandwich and ate some lunch while watching tv (Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, whoo!) before going back and finishing up some stuff online and reading. I am realizing that my little trip tomorrow is going to be a little more than a little trip. Feast Day starts at 9:30, but the earliest train I could get won’t get me into the town until about 9:51. And that is still 3 miles away from the site. So I will have to catch a bus that should leave at 10:25 and get there at about 10:35. But, it lasts until 3pm, which should give me plenty of time to take it all in. I know I will miss the opening worship stuff and maybe 30 minutes more of whatever comes after that (if it starts on time), but that should be all and at least I won’t miss lunch. So, hopefully it all works. I am now wondering why I did not just travel there tonight and get a hotel or something, but it is what it is and God willing I will make it.

Graham and Ann went out tonight and said they wouldn’t be back until fairly late, so I was on my own for dinner again. They said I was welcome to whatever I could find, or I could go get something, or I could go to the pub. Graham told me the pub food is actually pretty good (which is the same exact expression I have heard from anyone when they talk about where I could eat and one option being a pub). Well, I haven’t really spent much money on food in the last week, so I figured it was about time to try some pub food. So, I walked over (I had to find it, I didn’t know where it was, but I knew it would not be hard to find) and walked in. Now, keep in mind that to this point not been to a pub and I didn’t really know how things worked (not that they are actually that complicated).
So, I walked in and followed the signs to the place to order food. I walked past a lot of tables, but figured it was safest to just walk up to the counter and see what happens. At the counter was the menu for starters and the main course specials for the day. I did not know there
were menus on the tables, so I just thought that that must be the whole menu. So I found a main course that sounded good, although I didn’t really know what it was and ordered it. The lady asked me if I had a table and I said no, so she just paused and said well, you can take that one or go outside so I took the inside one since it was still cloudy. I paid and sat down and waited. This whole time was probably the only time I felt a little weird just being alone. Everyone else was talking and with friends. But, there was nothing I could do about that, so I just tried not to stare at anyone. My food came and it was a chicken dish with rice and a side of some really good pita-like bread and some dipping sauces. I ate it all the best I knew how and that was that. It was good food, although after sitting down at the table I realized, to my shame, the full menu with more normal stuff that I probably would have ordered had I seen that first. Oh well. Next time I’ll have it down.
I came back, and just chilled the rest of the night. I will be going to bed early so that I don’t miss my train and ruin all my overly extensive planning for tomorrow’s trip.
What I learned:
When you know you’ve seen too much Fresh Prince of Bel-Air – I hesitate to say that you can actually see too much, but I turned on the tv while eating lunch and saw that Fresh Prince was on, so I flipped to it and immediately recognized the episode.
Why? Why? Woe am I.
For into my mouth I put
Two jelly donuts.
Jelly filled donuts are really not all they are cracked up to be. And if anything I find they make me feel considerably more unhealthy than a regular donut. They wouldn’t be so bad if there was just a little bit of jelly in them, but instead they are always oozing with filling. Maybe someone out there who is aspiring to open a donut shop could have the options of reasonable jelly, medium jelly, and oozing jelly for people to pick from. Some people just don’t always want the oozing jelly option. Nevertheless, I still ate two of them.
Pubs do have menus, and at least at this one they are on the tables. Probably good to look at them before trying to order too.
Change definitely collects abundantly in pence just as much as it does in cents.
The trees can definitely reach a little higher to heaven than I can

But I don’t really need to reach that high now that You’ve reached down to me.
(I guess I am feeling poetical today)
